Adjust Tag Weight By Content Type

(Not exactly a feature request... more of an opinion request.)

I'm looking to add this capability and wanted to hear thoughts about the most efficient way to do so. Joining the node table to get node_type will be bad enough, but I also will need to associate a weight_adjustment_factor to the node type. Should the adjustment factors be system variables? Thoughts?
