I like the idea of creating a way for users to book themselves for rooms, events, etc...

I am just curious as to why you are developing this module. Are your intentions to replace the event and signup module with a more robust system or are you planning on using those modules for BSAPI?

In my opinion. I would develop a generalized booking system without any dependencies on Event or Signup.

I'm sorry to report that Fronbow (the main dev) had gotten quite sick and took a leave of absence from work. It seems he is doing a lot better and is still on leave but getting better everyday. Im sure he will swing back into action soon. As he needs this for his work websites.

In my discussions with him .. I believe his main purpose with this module is to be a general bookings api, which multiple modules will be able to tie into. So essentially it would work with ubercart, events or Signup modules, but would no require them.

It will have a set of basic contribs based around what he needs at his place of work; and then grow from there depending on the drupal community needs.

It would be good to outline what has been done, especially by the signup module and associated modules (http://drupal.org/project/signup) and see what remains in terms of bookings. Is signup moving into position to overtake the functions of the bookings api module?

I suppose it may be .. I have sent a few emails recently and not gotten a response yet.
I will try twitter and a few other avenues to see if hes still interested in maintaining this module.
