i'm looking to add forum functionality to my website.
I know the basic forum core module, and i'm looking into advanced forums. are there any options out there?

also, how is people's experience with advanced forums? i know it's alpha, but i understand it's fairly stable.

michelle does a wonderful job supporting and developing the adv_forum.module

as it stands its really the only project of it's kind doing what it does.

There are some good "bridge" modules available to connect Drupal and various 3rd party forum software if that's what you need (view them in the modules listing page). However I recommend going with Advanced Forum if you can. There's still some rough edges (especially if your forum is large) and some missing features, but it's improving all the time, and the benefits of clean integration are worthwhile (versus making your site users learn two different systems to use your site).
