It would be completely awesome if we could display the search score of each result as a percentage of the maximum score result for that particular query - e.g. the first result will always have 100%, the second will have maybe 97%, etc.

Completed. Added a hook_theme implementation and search_ranking now provides a template file that is used to the theme the search result output.
