Does Drupal search within a file attachment?

I've been using Drupal for the past 4 months now. I was of the impression that the search tool throws up results from within a file attachment or at least its name. however, this does not happen. Is there anyway the search feature can be extended or modified to throw up results from within file attachments or their names at least.
