Hey guys,

I am attempting to install drupal on a dreamhost server.

Set up is fine I have the databases and everything set up. But when I enter the information into the database configuration part of the install... It does nothing... the page refreshes and takes me back to database configuration with all the fields empty now.

I have changed the hostname from localhost as well.

What's going on and how can I fix it?

I dont think that this can be that huge of an issue. I read on these forums that you need to add a file.. but what file was it and where do I get it?

hahah, same exact problem here. Guessing we should take this up with Dreamhost? Since I got v.5.8 to work just fine ;]

I had the same problem, then I opened the settings.php file, there is a line:
$db_url = 'mysql://username:password@localhost/databasename';.
Then I just manually changed it, and it worked.

I did the same this, changed the file, uploaded it and then submitted to form blank. This did it.

im having this same problem on a fresh install on my pc at home. how do i edit the settings.php file? with notepad? i tried this and its still redirecting to the DB config screen after i put in root/pass. i did the exact same install at work, and it worked fine. i dont understand the difference.

I had the same problem. I'm new to Drupal but I have loaded several test sites locally using lamp. What I found is that the first several sites I followed the directions to copy and rename the wamp\www\sitedir\sites\default\default.settings. After doing this a few times I just started to rename the default.settings to settings. This does not work, copy then rename the file.

i tried it for a few days, thinking there was problem with my database

it's strange because permissions on file are ok

what is this "stupid" install which doesn't run ?
i would prefer good manual scripts !
