Any chance you could extend this to commit each db dump to a versioning system, eg SVN? That would be very cool.

Nice idea!

I'm not familiar with SVN but patches are welcome.

A hook could be added that is called at the end of a backup/dump that allowed other modules to operate on the newly created files.

We've played around with versioning database but we still do not have a solution we like. If you figure something out please share your ideas.
