Installation for org

Hello,
We would like to use Drupal for orgniazations and have few questions
first which version is recommenced – 5.8/6.3
and we want the system to work at least for one year without upgrading
this is not possible to go to the org every time and upgrade – only once or twice a year
and we need a stable version to work with
also in case we install few modules and change the skin – how easy is the upgrading every time for the new version?

Your version choice is
Your version choice is driven by the modules that you will need. Find the modules you will need. If they are supported in 6.3, go with that, otherwise you need to use the core that the modules require. It is very easy to upgrade if you read the dox for your initial installation and are careful to separate your modules and your theme. Use the ...sites/all/.. recommendations and DO NOT MODIFY THE CORE you will have an easy time of it.
Read through the documentation first to save a lot of angst.
