Just an "easy" question here guys, currently we are using version 3 of the player, but a lot has improved in the 4.x version, and a lot has changed also.
It'd be great if we could use the latest version. Has anyone attempted to use it with the current stable version of the module?
I will test and see if all hell breaks loose with this or not, but just wondering if anyone has given this any thought.

Mark Theunissen commentedHi Manuel, did you get round to testing it?
Thanks,
Mark

arthurf commentedI haven't done an upgrade to 4.0 yet. It should be easy to do (renaming some variables), but I just haven't managed yet. I want to do it as a pluggable architecture so that other players can be supported as well. I'll hope to do it sometime this month.

manuel garcia commentedthats good thinking arthurf, thanks for the update!
manuel garcia commentedarthurf what variables have changed and won't work? anything critical?
We have had to update to latest version because apparently it was behaving silly on mozilla on mac os , it played back mp3s with "chipmunk" effect, as if it was playing faster than normal.
arthurf commentedI haven't had the "chipmunk" effect, though there is lots of information on JW's site about issues with the player. I'm not sure that you really need the 4.0 player, but it is a nice upgrade.
Many of the variables that control the player have been renamed- I'm not sure how many of those effect mp3 playback, but you could just try it out and see if it works for you.

manuel garcia commentedUpdate: We have upgraded the player, and it is functional.
From our settings, we see that the player colors settings don't work however, so if this is an issue for your site, don't upgrade the player yet ;) -of course, you can always use the "Additional flashvars" field and put in there all you need. See the player's documentation on supported variables.
For the rest, not sure what works and what doesn't, no time to test things at the moment.
As far as the "chipmunk effect", I found this thread on the player's site --it seems several things seem to trigger this, flash player version?, mp3 encoding?... read the thread and perhaps you can find why it is happening to you.
From their readme:
Anyway, I hope this speeds up the troubleshooting for people ;)

delykj commentedArthurf, about when will you implement this plugin architecture to support the JW Player v.4.x?
Thanks,
Christopher
Comment #9
arthurf commentedI'm close to a working version now- I'm trying to improve some backwards compatibility and fix some dumb coding that I did on the first round. Hopefully will have an alpha out later today.
manuel garcia commentedAwesome arthurf, you rock!
arthurf commentedI released an alpha version which has support for 4. It likely has some bugs, but it's a push forward toward in getting support for 4.
chasz commentedyou are using swfobject2.1 ??
arthurf commentedYes, using swfobject 2 personally, but this will work with version 1.5 as well
