Subscriptions module [http://drupal.org/project/subscriptions] allows to add an 'subscribe' link below nodes of admin chosen content type

However, if user profile is chosen as the content type subscriptions link does not show up even when tried via panels. The option to add 'subscriptions' pane shows up but when saved this thing actually does not show up.

This is important to let profile owners know when there has been comment to their profile.

The notifications module notifies of comments on all profiles ( via pm or mail) .

So any solution ... or any means to notify of comments to an user on his profile only
will be highly appreciated

Lack of a feature is not a bug. You might try asking in the subscriptions queue if there's a way to automatically subscribe users to their own posts in the content type you use for profiles.
