We are working on a site where each group needs its own shoutbox, with a role in the group responsible for moderating only that shoutbox's posts. We are willing to sponsor this feature.

Has there been any development in enhancing the feature to work for Organic Groups?

Not in shoutbox, to my knowledge. We've built our own module that we will be releasing back to the community. We call it a tipline but its essentially a shoutbox with moderation and while its not integrated with OG it simply requires a "key" that makes it unique, so each og group supplies it a key (the og group node id) and thus we have multiple tiplines (shoutboxes). If no key is supplied, it uses the page url as the key (so in that sense, you could have a different shoutbox in a number of contexts).

This really sounds great, so tipline can also be used in user profile context, this is awesome :) will keep a look out for your module.

solomongifford: how is development going on this module? I could really use a decent shoutbox for my site (this one has a lot of problems). I'm willing to help out if you guys need it.

We go live on Wednesday, 3/4/09....I've also set up a demo site so people can see if this is something they are interested in. Putting up the demo site was our first step in making sure we remove all dependencies on other custom stuff we are doing. We hope to release soon!
As an aside, we are also using this as a substitute for the comment module. We've integrated it with hook_link so that if the tipline is on a node correctly, nodes can have the "1 comment" "be the first to comment" etc...
