i made a footer block called googanalytics and copppied the jscript snippet, had full html input mode.... and nothing.... maybe it takes a couple hours for google to register the hits, but what am i missing?

Yes, it will take a few hours and sometimes up to a day.
You should install the google analytics module - it will keep the analytics script out of your admin area. That means the admin interface will load faster and also that you won't be counting admin stuff as page views.
