Site developers: new module released to make your job easier.
Deeporange1 - July 14, 2008 - 19:34
I would like to announce the release of a new module called Active Template. Active Template is similar to ConTemplate with a few differences:
- It works on views (Both page and block)
- You can add custom JavaScript/jQuery and CSS directly into the editor
- Custom .js and .css files are managed automatically and injected where needed
- And you can have more than one template for each view and access them independently
Active Template was developed to leverage the power of views queries with the flexibility of custom defined templates. Active Template is useful for:
- View animations
- Adding extra features (buttons, tags, forms, etc) to a view
- highly altering view displays (on a per-view basis)
- and much more
Active Template is a developers module and requires at least a working knowledge of PHP (CSS and JavaScript/jQuery knowledge is optional - but it really helps).
If you can use ConTemplate, you can use Active Template.
You can visit the project page Here. We look forward to hearing what you have to say about this new module.
Best regards, Derek

Adrian and I are highly interested in the Drupal community's thoughts about this module. We are trying to gauge support for this so that we can decide whether to create and release a D6 version.

Contributors always welcome
I haven't evaluated your module, but probably will be doing so soon. I'm also very interested as to whether you considered joining forces with the Contemplate contributors? To prevent duplication?
On the project page you
On the project page you say:
>>You want your view to output one node teaser and 10 node titles.
Bingo! That's exactly what I want and currently I have been using custom PHP to do it. I was thinking of getting rid of that and have been wondering if I could achieve that with Views when I upgrade to 6.3 (I'm stuck on 4.7, but in the process of upgrading now that views and CCK are available).
I'll definitely be testing this in the next few weeks and and will use it for sure if it works as expected.
One question, will the View still be cached and all as usual? In other words, how much of a performance hit does this cause? I ask because without caching, my custom PHP front page generates a significant load.

Just noticed that it's a 5.x module. Are you planning on a 6.x version any time soon? The Views module has obviously changed a lot, so I suspect updating to 6.x will be a tough task.

VERY Interested!
I am currently developing a D6 site and this module would be awesome to have...
D6 will be a rough
D6 will be a rough transition. Views in D6 have a WAY better feature set the those for 5 - including a means of templating them. In many respects, Active Template is not needed for D6, however if there seems to be some compelling evidence suggesting that it would provide capabilities that are difficult/impossible without, then we might do it.
We will look into it though...

Thanks for the reply. So
Thanks for the reply. So far, I'm just getting my new site to have the Views funcitonality of the old site, so I haven't really discovered the new features of Views2. I'll have to see how far i can get with V2. I'm mostly thinking of the situation where you want a teaser for the first item and just titles thereafter.
Either way, thanks for your module.
