If I enable video filetyper in the core upload module, I can easily upload videos.

What does this module do differently or is it better?

It CCK based so you get the benefits and flexibility that brings, also when you use formatters like mediafield_display you get more display options than you do with a simple attachment.

It also now has ajax upload, in the same way the recent imagefield module does.
