Best way to have a theme designed?

Village Idiot - July 17, 2008 - 08:06

I am in the middle of putting together a Drupal website. I can handle most of the bolting it together, but I am less confident of designing a website that looks like I want it to. Consequently, I will probably end up paying someone to do the theme design.

What's the most effective way to get someone to do a theme design? I have (paper-based) sketches of what I have in mind, but should I do an HTML mock-up? A Photoshop .PSD? What's the best basis for someone to start?

create a rough image outline

create a rough image outline if you know how..if not then you use your sketches...

I would get as much together

I would get as much together as you can for the person who will ultimately design the site. In addition to either a rough photoshop mockup or your on-paper sketches, make notes about what you want (colors, feel, functionality and how that will need to be included in the design, even what you Don't want). Also include links to other sites that do certain things you really like/want to emulate in your own way (could be the whole look-and-feel, might be just the primary navigation menu).

This will make it easier for your designer to execute your vision, and easier for you to get what you want! (It will probably save some time/back-and-forth in the end also.) hth!
