Simply cannot get it to work... :-(

Project:PageEar

Issue Summary

Hi there,

I have a pretty vanilla Drupal install with pageear as a module.
I have left it completely on default settings, enabled it, and checked all the test images are in place and the path is correct.

I have tried both in admin and as an unregistered user and cannot see it.

One theory I had was that I have a very very wide top banner image.
So I moved the pageear to displaying on the left. Still no joy.

Can you throw me a bone?

Cheers,
scratt

I should have mentioned I have tried both Safari and FireFox with and without PopUps enabled.

I know this is a reply with a huge delay... but someone may find this useful...

When I installed it the this module the first time, it didn't work for me. (didn't do anything)
After playing around with the image paths, I got it working... and here's what I did...

1) install the module the usual way: Home » Administer » Site building (enable Pageear) > Save
2) Home » Administer » Site configuration » Pageear » check "Enable PageEar"
! now, make sure that the paths to your "small" and "big" images are correct:

This a path in my local environment (using xampp)...
If you paste the path to your browser, you should be able to see the image...
If you can't see the image, it won't work in the module...

Unpeeled image:
http://localhost/mydrupalfolder/sites/all/modules/pageear/pageear/pageea...

Peeled image:
http://localhost/mydrupalfolder/sites/all/modules/pageear/pageear/pageea...

And after putting the correct paths, save and preview your site...

I hope someone will find this info useful.

Ok I tried what you said and I can't even get it to work on the default themes. The image paths are correct, I can copy/paste them into my browser and see the images but it is'nt showing up on my site. And yes I do have it enabled.

Are there any other variables to check?

#4

- If javascript is disable on browser pageear would not work.

- Flash plugin needed for pageear to work too.

- A browser ad filter can block pageear.

#5

I followed the instructions exactly, and no Page Ear. :-( I've tried it without CONDITIONS installed, with CONDITIONS installed and configured for ALWAYS. I've tried 5 different themes to assure it isn't my theme. I've tried my own jpegs, and the stock jpegs. I've tried the current PageEar release, and the dev version. Regarding my installations, I've tried putting the PageEar module into drupa>Sites>All>Modules, and installing it from there, with no results, and then I removed it, and tried putting PageEar in drupal/modules and installing it from there... also no results. I've tried Firefox 3.0.4, and IE 7.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you test if you can see this pageear?

http://cuentatemporal.byethost17.com/

If you see it some problems can be discarded:

- your browser capable to work with javascript.
- your browser has proper flash version.
- no ad filter preventing pageear to load.

Hi manfer,

I really appreciate your help. Yes, I can see the pageear at: http://cuentatemporal.byethost17.com/
So I think my browser is OK.
What else can I do? Do I need to edit pageear.js? Do I need to edit anything in the source? I've really tried everything so far and don't have any idea what else I can check.

By the way my theme is default garland. I don't have any other modules installed (except the ones that drupal 6 automatically installs). My site is bone stock.

The one shown there is the new pageear I'm coding but it is still not in CVS. If you are able to see that one it should work on your own site if you install that new pageear.

Probably tomorrow I would provide another zip file with the module for anyone that wants to test it. Probably better I start a new issue with the new one. And soon if it is working fine I'm going to try to get permission to maintain this module and release new version.

The one now on CVS is more than an year old and not maintained at all.

OK, please let me know when it's ready for testing. Looks like your pageear is going to work better than the old one.
