Hi,
Can anyone share with me what could be the fare price for charging a website based on Drupal (6.3)? So far I have done websites for my organization and friends and never charged for any of them. But now for the first time, people have started asking me for a quote for website in Drupal. Having no idea of what the market price is, I dont want to charge more or less, and here am I for your help.
I' will be very thankful, if you could share your "fair price" for Drupal installation in the following scenarios.
1. standard drupal installation
2. standard drupal installation + cck + views + image gallery
+ configuration like custom node type + custom block + views_block
+ drupal theme from a photoshop mock up
3. drupal theme for an existing drupal site from a photoshop mockup
Thank you,
Tosho

Depends
Depends on the price level in your area. $50-$100 USD is normal. Different skills require different talents. Also consideration for non-billable hours. In the end you have to pay your bills.
Thanks Samik, Please can you
Thanks Samik,
Please can you be more specific, like is the range you mentioned is for a basic installation (scenario 1, above) or for drupal with additional modules + themes (scenario 2) or only for a drupal theme (scenario 3)?
Anyone else have some input for me?
Thank you all,

I think he meant per hour. $50-$100 total for that would be insane.

Your competition
There was a post in the last few weeks from someone who was installing D + a few modules for $50. He had quite a clientele, with many good recommendations. Apparently he had the install/config process down pat. It would be hard to compete against this directly, so I suggest focusing on value added. Working locally is a plus. I suggest determining how long long it takes you to install Drupal & a couple modules, and setting an hourly rate which would put you close to this price, which would of course increase as your skills do. Then provide your clients excellent service, listening first, then proposing actions. You should be able to create long-term relationships, as these sites need periodic attention (grow or die). These will provide the bulk of your income, not cut-rate installations. As an architect, I know these principles apply to any service-oriented business.
.
Just installing Drupal and a few modules isn't that hard. But the OP listed two themes done from mockups, and you aren't going to get that for $50 if you want quality work.

Of course
Yes, also note that the consultant I referred to also had a day job. Here's a business cliche: Competing on price means you're always at war. That's why I advise positioning as a value-added service. I don't know Drupal deeply enough to hold out as a consultant, but when I do I would probably charge about a thousand dollars, maybe more, to get a basic site set up and themed. This would also include some training.
also you might want to
also you might want to consider billing in "hours" (read: workload), more time required is more money required.
less == more
Thank you, Michelle,
Thank you, Michelle, alexanderpas, samik. I value your comments.
