Remove the dot from the end of uploaded files

I want to upload a bash script. These files do not have an extension. However, when I upload, Drupal sees fit to stick a "." on the end thus making life for me and my users difficult.

Is there anyway to tell Drupal that I am perfectly capable of deciding on my own file names?
