Can someone please help me with setting up a multisite configuration under localhost? I am developing Drupal websites on my local platform and currently have to have seperate code bases for each site, which is all rather silly. My 'live' sites are hosted on a shared codebase system (I can access that server via a cpanel interface) and I set it all up without any trouble - even with seperate databases for each site.

My local system runs Fedora 8 and the Apache web server. Server root is "/var/www/html" and I can browse to my main Drupal site located physically at "/var/www//html/drupal-6" using the URL "http://localhost.localdomain/drupal-6" without any bother but cannot access any other sites such as "/var/www/html/drupal-6/sites/example.site" even though all permissions have been set up for the example.site folder and its contents (a dedicated 'files' folder and settings.php file).

Clearly, I have overlooked something - but what it is I cannot imagine...

As far I can understand and from my young experience of installing Multisite on Linux/Unix systems I have installed on Windows Server. My question: Have you adapt the .htaccess file for mod_revrite issues?

maybe helpfull :

1. http://drupal.org/node/37177 = multisite + cpanel - ssh

2. http://drupal.org/node/144643 = Drupal installed in subdirectory but made to appear in root

3. http://drupal.org/node/25011 = Multi-Site .htaccess configuration
especially this comment http://drupal.org/node/25011#comment-136227 .

4. http://drupal.org/node/165121 = Multisite and .htaccess: HTTP_HOST vs SERVER_NAME

Cheers
