Problem with calendar and "event" content type

I'm trying to set up an events calendar. The problem I'm having is that when I create the content type and I add on a date field to it, when I try to create an event the date input field doesn't show. Only the title and body input fields show. If I try to submit the event though, I get an error saying that I need to input a date. Any idea why the date input field wouldn't be showing?
