Description
What min modules are needed to demo the functionality of this module? I want to try this out.
Thanks.

Hey there,
I was very happy to finally find a OSC development for Drupal. Great job.
Do you have a doc how you hook up drupal to the OSC? Do you need to install OSC in a specific directory under the drupal tree?
Otherwise, a demo site like farg_art suggested would be awesome.
Cheers.

Hi Anil, Bert,
The module is in quite an early stage - hence the documentation not very good at the moment - but I'm still working on it.
You can see an example at http://idcpfaff.co.uk - all the product info is taken from the osCommerce database and delivered through Drupal.
To get it to work you need:
- a working Drupal site,
- a working osCommerce site
- the Drupal and osCommerce installations are separate, but the Drupal website needs to be able to access the osCommerce database and also locate the osCommerce image directories- so different directories on the same server would be fine
- install the osCommerce module in the Drupal site
- use the module's admin screen to tell it how to access the osCommerce database and images

Will this module integrate user databases of Drupal and OS Commerce somehow? I want to avoid having separate login processes on the same site.

Question to Steve Lockwood
I have discovered the ocCommerce module, but I am not sure How to use it.
Can I use Dreaweaver to create the osCommerce site?
I am now working on a drupal site in my localhost directory, not yet uploaded as a live site.
Am I supposed to create a database for the osCommerce module in phpMyAdmin?
Please guide me to how to get this thing to work. I am a newbie. My name says it all.
Thanks in advance.

Hi grace,
You have to set up Drupal and osCommerce as separate systems - this does mean creating a "separate" database. By "separate" you could mean:
- a different schema from the Drupal database
- the same schema as the Drupal database, but using a different prefix to keep the tables separate.
osCommerce has got quite a good install facility which creates all the tables for you - you just need to plan where you are going to put it.
osCommerce isn't as clever as Drupal when it comes to theming, but it's easy enough to modify the layout. I never use Dreamweaver, but I guess it could be used - the problem might be that osCommerce uses lots of "snippets" of code to build the page.
See post #2 in this thread for a bit more info on installation.

This sounds like it's going to be a great module.
Will the users for Drupal and OsCommerce be the same or will users have to sign up and sign in twice?
Thanks.

Hi philldo,
Single sign-on between the sites looks tricky. I would expect that browsers of the Drupal site would be guests. When they go on to the osCommerce site they would have to sign on to make a purchase. So in practice they would only sign in once.

Just want to drop by and expression my appreciation for the developer. I don't need the module right now but will need it in the future. So keep up with all your great work.

Hey Steve,
Glad someone is finally working on something like this. I find it hard to believe that there is so little interest/documentation about integrating 3rd party ecommerce software in with Drupal.
For the past year I have been wanting to move over to ZenCart (which was an early break off of OsCommerce), but the module development for it is not moving very quickly. Since both ZenCart and OsCommerce are very similar, I was thinking maybe the two of you could combine your resources and develop these modules together. They may in fact, function very similarly and could possibly become the same module.?
I think what most people would like to see happen would be, for the "stores" to be fully embedded in Drupal much like phpBB and Gallery2, which would mean having 1 login and user syncing from pre-existing OsCommerce/ZenCart installations.
I've been using OsCommerce for years now, and there are tons of things I am very unhappy about, but getting either Zen or OsC into Drupal would be a very big plus.

Here's the ZenCart module project. Again, maybe you two can connect and combine forces?
Thanks for your time

great! ...
really thanks, steve..
i'm very looking forward ....
but not only the single signon. i think it is very important to synchronize the members data.
