There seems to be no progress in creating an offiicial D5 version of this module.
Nevertheless, attached to this post you can find a patch raising your version from 1.17 to 1.19 which is the last version before merging with search_attachment starts.

I have not had much time lately to do much with Search Files, I am letting lee20 take the lead on the merge with Search Attachments. If you could take the lead on putting out an official release of Search Files for D5 I would appreciate it. I have given you CVS access to the module, use it wisely.
