single user cannot log in

One user cannot log in to my website. The first time she tries to log in she gets the message:
Sorry. Unrecognized username or password. Have you forgotten your password?
Despite the fact the details are correct. Then when she tries to go to the reset password page she gets the Site offline message.
Looking at the logs, it appears that the system does think she is logging in, but is not sending her to the right page. She has tried using Firefox and IE, and has cleared the cache and the cookies with no luck. She has tried using two different user names and had the same problem with both.
I have been unable to replicate it and have logged in successfully with both user names. This is the first time we have ever had this problem, despite lots of users logging into the site.
