Hello,

I bought a copy of Drupal 5 Themes from Packt Publishing last year with the intention of learning Drupal immediately. After getting repeatedly sidetracked, I have now begun to learn what I can. I know that theming has changed with the release of Drupal 6. However, would the Drupal 5 Themes book still be useful or relevant reading once I get to the point of trying to create custom themes for 6.0+ or should I wait for a 'new' book to come out?

Thanks!

Although some of the theme system has been overhauled for 6, I think that much of the system remained intact. It would probably be worth your time to learn how 5 works. Then if you run into any troubles with 6, you can learn how the system has changed with the upgrade. There will probably be many Drupal 5 sites around for a long time, so knowing how its theme layer works can't hurt.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the feedback. I thought maybe things had changed drastically enough to make the book outdated. I'll start my reading right away!
