Generating static .html files for Anonymous users is really what I want to do ... but does it work with PathAuto aliasing, or is it all handled by Apache and the vanilla Drupal conf by default?

I'm using PathAuto and I don't have any problems with this module.
This module is not for generating html files, it's cache module.
I don't know for which solution you are looking for, but this this module as well: http://drupal.org/project/boost
