When I edit the content type user profile, next to every field like Gender, Status there is an option to "Remove"

It seems to remove the field permanently, so a module reinstall would be needed to bring it back. :)

This has nothing to do with APK. Those are CCK fields.

Ah ok, then maybe these are added by Bio. Was not sure which module was adding them after following your tutorial :) They seem to melt together! Quite nice stuff.

No, the fields are on the node type that comes with APK, but it's just a node type dump. The UI for dealing with them is CCK.
