Can you please advise what should be used instead of event_get_calendar in D6() or point me to any documentation?

OG Calendar @ D5 ..

$output = event_get_calendar('month', $nodes, 'og_calendar', t('!name calendar', array('!name' => $group->title)));

Event for Drupal 8 is unrelated to older versions. If an issue similar to this one exists, please open a new issue with the 8.x branch.
