Version compatibilities between jQuery and core

jQuery Compatibilities

Now that jQuery ships within the Drupal core framework (as of D5), this page outlines and cross-references the most current versions of jQuery that are compatible with Drupal core versions.

Drupal Core 6.3

As is stands now, jQuery 1.2.6 is the distributed version that comes with each copy of Drupal core. It is also the most current version of the jQuery project.

Drupal Core 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2

jQuery 1.2.3

Drupal Core 5.0 through 5.8

jQuery 1.0.x (currently 1.0.4)

If you'd like to try using a higher version of jQuery in your Drupal site, there's always jQuery_update.module, which can currently bring you right up to date (i.e. version 1.2.6) in either D5 or D6.
