Teasers in two columns in Drupal6

Without panels and Vies bonus pack available for Drupal 6, how may I create a two-column teaser list with one teaser at the top?
What I want to do is to port my site AnimeNord.com to drupal, but I'm kinda stuck at the front-page... :/

Any help or suggestions?

Create a page-front.tpl.php

Create a page-front.tpl.php and add in multiple regions such as a top featured article, left front article, right front article. From there, you can put views into each region.
