Any Drupal books about Modules???
lancsDavid - July 27, 2008 - 18:24
[ don't mean "Learning Drupal 6 Module Development" - am ploughing my way through this at the moment ]
i mean non-core modules, like CCK, Views, etc - does anyone know if there's a book out that covers these??? (for Drupal 6)
or, in case there isn't (as there doesn't appear to be) does anyone know if there's a book planned for release on this subject soon?

a simple google search shows
a simple google search shows the following results:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en-us&q=drupal+modu...
you really should do ur research b4 u start making posts
errrr?????
dude, that google search shows jack
didn't the post not start by saying (2 paraphrase) "DO NOT RECOMMEND Learning Drupal 6 Module Developent AS I ALREADY HAVE THIS"
( this book being the only vaguely relevant one returned from ur google search - except, like completely IRRELEVANT because i already have it???)
ok. maybe i need to be more clear
1. i look and look for drupal books all over the web, trying to find one that explains the non-core drupal modules. things like "Views" (specifically), "CCK", "devel", etc
2. BUT A BOOK ON THIS SUBJECT DOESN'T SEEM TO EXIST
3. so, i think "maybe someone on the drupal site has heard a rumour that a book of this nature is soon to be released" (or perhaps already exists somewhere i haven't looked)
4. therefore, i post
so please, don't no-one else bust my balls for asking. it's not a chump's question

Drupal Jumpstart, by Lullabot
It won't be out for up to several more months by my understanding, but Lullabot is currently writing the book that I believe you are referring to (ostensibly named Drupal Jumpstart). It will be about CCK, Views, and many other contrib modules popularly used on sites, and how to set up and use them in real world applications. Books that cover contrib modules are rare because contrib modules are unofficial and contstantly in a state of non-stop change and development (often with little to no documentation), so it is a significant challenge to write a book about them, especially by people who aren't the ones writing the modules (writing/publishing books on this is a substantial undertaking and financial issue as well). There are, however, countless free articles, podcasts, screencasts, and other resources about contrib modules online (for instance, here is my personal reference of Drupal learning resources, which contains a substantial sum of relevant learning material in various formats from text articles to videos, etc).
In the mean time you might also have a look at Building Powerful and Robust Websites with Drupal 6 (most is just general core Drupal, but I've heard this edition covers CCK now as well - I have the first edition and disliked it quite a bit, but you might have better luck... if CCK is the only thing that interests you in this book, I'd look elsewhere though - there are good guides/videos/lessons freely available).
Please try to be more kind in your responses to people here, even if you don't get the answer you were hoping for (this is the community etiquette). The other guy wasn't as polite as he maybe could have been, though he did try to help you (and misunderstood your post by accident)... please try not to snap at people here (that goes for everyone), as that will only lead to people deciding not to help you anymore). Writing in CAPS is considered yelling online also, by the way.
Good luck.

ta
the list of resources looks pretty useful. as for the "Building Powerful...." book, i've pretty much worked my way through that (came a bit unstuck towards the end when it started talking about themes)
