When I upload a file and mark it private it goes OK into the private directory, but if I click on it my Firefox extension says it is 20bytes in size, and when I try to open it, 'Error: cannot open that file. Probably it does not exist.' The file definitely exists, and however many files I try it with it always gives the same error message.

starbow commentedI am not sure what you mean when you say "my Firefox extension says it is 20bytes in size". What Firefox extension are you referring to? And what is the size of the file originally?
Also, what happens if you put the url for the file directly into the browser?

edward.peters commentedI use the PDF Download extension which allows you to click on a PDF link and get info about it before opening it. Links to any files uploaded with Private Upload get a message saying '20 bytes in size', instead of the correct filesize.
If I put the full pass to the file into the browser I get a completely blank white screen.

starbow commentedOk, so it this particularly an issue with pdfs?
Do you get the same issues if you upload say, a jpg?
Also, does it all work as expected with the pdf if you have the private check box off?
Lastly, how big is the pdf?

edward.peters commentedNo not just pdfs. Tried with txt now and same issue, blank screen when tried to open. Made the file no longer private and it opened fine.
Works fine for pdfs with private off.
Pdfs about 12-20k.
