Wordpress has a plugin called the "Wordpress Automatic Upgrade"

"Wordpress Automatic Upgrade allows a user to automatically upgrade the wordpress installation to the latest one provided by wordpress.org using the 5 steps provided in the wordpress upgrade instructions. Go to Wordpress Automatic Upgrade to upgrade your installation Thanks to Ronald Huereca for making the plugin run in automatic mode."

We need a similar module that can upgrade Drupal, and it's modules manually ( semi automatic ) or in automative mode ( 1 or 3 clicks ).

I'm putting the idea out there.
I don't know if a similar project already exists but I'm willing to help financially to get this done.
Contact me if you need financial donors to get this started or completed.

Something like this would save us countless hours of work. We spend so much time upgrading modules and drupal core installations.

See http://groups.drupal.org/node/10893

The security issues are non-trivial, so you should read up on the discussions related to that project.

I can's say I am knowledgeable on the security issues such a module might create. I'll read the discussion at the link the last person gave and see if that enlightens me. But in principle I can't see why it's not possible to implement such functionality in a secure fashion.

It is the introduction of One Click Updates (for Wordpress plugins) and Wordpress Automatic Upgrade that has for me made working with Wordpress realistic. It saves me many hours of time every month... and I have everything up to date all the time... were as I use to only update every few months when I had a day to spare.

I highly recommend such a feature in Drupal via a module (or even as core code).

My two cents worth.

I second this.. this would be a very time-saver feature.

Actually is what keeps me from completely LOVING Drupal.

I do, however, am happy that drupal dev's patch the security holes very quick and that they provide the updates.

But even Joomla has this option where you upload the update zip to the site and everything is automagic.

Maybe Drupal could develop this app and use an API key to allow the module to work. This should make it more secure.
