The radioactivity module seems exactly what I seek.
Traditional content ranking is strictly temporal, or strictly popularity. I want metrics of both and radioactive half-life offers an exact analog of my need. The problem is : when I filter by radioactivity in my River of News view, all of my content is trapped and nothing is viewed. I see the radioactivity table has accurate information about node stimulations.
I sure would like changes from "bugs" to documented features. Is there any way my meager talent might help?

skiminki commentedAre you sure you want to filter by radioactivity and not just sort by radioactivity? For "most popular" views, add "sort by radioactivity" (descending).
But ok, if you'd like to contribute into Radioactivity documentation (which is a bit bare, I might say), I'd be more than happy to include that to the module. If you're accustomed to patches, please just send them attached in issues. If not, create an issue (or a set of them) and list your changes/additions there, and I'll include them. We could have more stuff in README.txt, better admin/module/help sections.
We could even have some pages in drupal.org for Radioactivity, maybe containing howto's and other more practically oriented information.

mydllurth commentedIndeed … my attempt was to sort by radioactivity and not filter. That was my misrepresentation, but the failure is as described with sort by radioactivity instead of filter by radioactivity.
I did, subsequently, filter on radioactivity greater than 0 with the same result. I'm looking for some reason but am out of hair to yank.
As I find understanding, I grow an e-book. Documentation should be no different.

skiminki commentedI made little testing and AFAICT the filtering and sorting features works just fine. Be sure to sort/filter by node radioactivity and not comment (or other) radioactivity.

mydllurth commentedI found 5.x-1.2-rc2 available on 2008 August 29, and updated. Sorts by radioactivity will work, depending on node access to update radioactivity. That work for my purposes.
Now ... on to documentation. We can do this. :)
