Hey peoples!
I need help making my first theme...

I'm fairly experienced with coding. But I am quite at a loss with coding for drupal.

If someone could give me some pointers, that would be great :D

Here's what I'm trying to do

This is what I want my front page to look like:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/the_narnian/cgolayout.jpg

All of the other pages will look like this:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/the_narnian/cgolayout2.jpg

It's going to be a fixed layout (1024px wide) with a background texture for those with large screen resolutions (like myself).

I own Dreamweaver, and as I said before I am fairly experienced with coding. So this shouldn't be too hard. I just need to know where to start ;)

Start out with a static XHTML page with corresponding CSS. You can then replace sections of your XHTML with the necessary PHP variables (your default regions are going to be things like $footer, $content, $sidebar_left, etc.). Save this subsequent PHP file as page.tpl.php. Essentially you now have a theme, consisting of your CSS style sheet and page.tpl.php. Upload to /themes/[your theme name here]/ or /sites/all/themes/[your theme name here]/.

For help with defining new regions or theming certain content types, you'll want to read some documentation and get your hands dirty.
