some of our users are complaining that the hashcash module is considering them as spam bots.

I have tried myself to add some comments without being logged in and I succeed, so there must be something going wrong only for some users.

How can I investigate this problem further in order to understand what is going wrong, and possibly find a way to fix it?

I've had reports of this myself, and am having difficulty trying to replicate the bug (I too am unable to). I'm not sure what it is you can do to investigate this I'm afraid, but rest assured I'm aware that there may be a problem.

Well, a lot of people browse with http://noscript.net/ plugin, or otherwise have js turned off. That could cause the problem.

This is fixed in the D6 version, and may also be fixed in the D5 version.
