Description

There are some very well established Taxonomies related to areas that Calais gathers metadata for (e.g. Medical Terms relates very well to MeSH and UMLS, which has its own semantic network) Are there any thoughts to integrating the two so that Calais can generate hierarchical semantic data?

For more info on UMLS: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/

Whoa... I saw your post and read Cialis instead of Calais. My first thought was 'Great, comment spam on Drupal.org'. Must be Friday. :)

Jeff, that's a great idea! Ideas like that are what we tried to support when we inserted hooks in different places in the Calais module, so that other developers can write interesting modules like the one you mentioned.

If there are people who are knowledgeable about third-party taxonomies like that and have time to develop a module, we would gladly link to their modules from the Calais module's page. And if somebody is working on something like that, but needs additional hooks, please let us know, we will try to accommodate as much as possible.

The Calais module is mostly a foundation and we absolutely expect/hope that people will be writing extension modules to it, using it in variety of different use-cases.

This could be a great add-on module that makes use of the Calais pre/post processing hooks.
