Finally, with encouragement from kind people on here, I managed to instal Drupal, using XAMPP, on my laptop.

So now it is there, and I am trying to understand

1. How to build a sample one-page site using this system,

and

2. How to add a graphics module, for example enabling thumbnail graphics to enlarge on clicking on this one-page site.

I've read quite a lot of the help, readme, and support tutorial material now. I've watched three videos, and listened to a couple of Podcasts. It all still sounds very abstract and odd to me.

A. If I make a sample page with one sentence on it - a Hello World page - and I want to see it, how can I see it without the blue Drupal graphics framing it?

B. If I am to enable a module, do I do this from inside Drupal, and if so, how and where on the elegantly sparse, but rather abstract-sounding menu....?
