Hello,
I am not sure this is the right place to post this but I would like to use TAC + OG, OG user roles and OG forums to do the following (I have also posted this in the OG User Role forum).
It seems to be so simple!
The issue/ question is about commenting on forums and blogs, with different comment permission depending on the forum or blog.
This is the configuration I would like to implement:
I have 2 groups of people (A and B)
I have 3 forums (F1, F2 and F3)
Forum F1:
- Group A can view, post topics and comment
- Group B can view only
Forum F2:
- Group B can view, post topics and comment
- Group A can view only
Forum 3:
Group A and B can view, post topics and comment
The problem is that the comment permissions are site wide (it’s a known issue). A user with comment without approval permission can comment on ALL forums (blogs) he can see.
I know how do manage the view and post topics with them Forum Access module.
But how can I manage the commenting. I tried a few ideas with OG and OG user roles, but no success!
Would TAC be able to solve this?
I had a look a nodecomment and nodeforum, it looks like it is possible to create the above example and behavior because the comments are nodes. Did anyone test this?
Any other ideas?
I am trying to do the same thing with commenting on blogs, it is the same problem, just replace Forum by Blog in the example!
Thanks,
Pascal

cpugeniusmv commentedIt sounds to me like your best option is to try something with nodecomment. I don't know much about nodecomment.module, but I doubt you'll get far with the comment.module from core.

notageek commentedHi psiegel,
About 6 monts ago I had tried to do something very similar using og+ogur. I needed to use blogs and forums for my site. But after spending about a few months trying to do it I opted out only because of the all/nothing COMMENT issue in drupal. ogur was helpful to some extent as it did allow commenting ONLY within the og context but the thing just didn't work with forums or even og forums.
I did not spend extensive time on TAC. Sorry, can't help you much with that. TAC did look to be promising and equally complex but honestly I'm doubtful how useful TAC is when trying to manage comments.
Do keep us posted if you could get this working.

psiegel commentedI will keep you posted, good news or bad news ...
I am willing to look into TAC and spend some time to try it and get it work. Would you know of a good user documentation, or a step by step doc, just to start me of and get the basic principals and th philosophy behind TAC?
I gave a try with nodecomment and nodeforum. I would like to avoid because of support issues. But it is the concept that would resolve my problem.

notageek commentedNo, I don't have anything specific to refer you to. Sorry. But I can tell you that there is a lot TAC can offer (especially when we integrate TAC + OGUR) but it needs a considerable amount of time to complety master TAC and then the integration TAC + OGUR capablities due to TAC's complex nature.
Note: to use the TAC + OGUR integration options in ogur you'll need to install the multinode patch in the ogur tarball.

psiegel commentedHello All,
I agree, TAC is complex, but I guess this is also what is providing the flexibility and the power. I a willing to invest some time but would need some help to start well :)
This is what I would like to do:
For each blog, a group of users (in a role) can view or edit a blog, can comment, comment with approval, view the comments. And keep it "simple" when editing a blog :)
I would like to do the same thing for Forums, if possible.
I have found this documentation "Controlling Access to Content by Configuring Groups as Roles": http://drupal.org/node/200631 . I followed the step by step process and it is working. The doc is a bit outdated and I have some doubts about the settings. I have difficulties to understand the philosophy behind TAC and would appreciate a "simple explanation" or a study case/ example on how to set things up, especially for the comment permissions.
Would anyone be willing to give it a try, I am willing to do some testing and write up the step by step and philosophy documentation after I understand TAC (if I ever do!).
Thanks,
Pascal
