I have been a happy fan(user) of mediafield display module which I use with CCK and media field in 5.0 to create an easy to use podcast upload/play system on our sites.
We are developing new sites in 6.0. Filefield is now out in alpha. Is there any chance you could import mediafield display to 6.0 to use with Filefield? Need the player capability.

That's a great idea! I won't be working on it though, as I was only developing this module when I needed it for a project. I'll accept tested patches, or if someone else wants to take it over, that would be fine too.
If someone does start working on this, he or she should assign this issue to him/herself.

I am sorry for not updating this post sooner and more faithfully. We did find a solution for our Drupal 6 sites which has worked quite well....
We use these modules:
CCK
Filefield
MP3 Player
Read the "read me" instructions for setting up the file fields and then a minor tweak in installation of mp3 player but we used the .dev version of mp3 player with no problems and then switched to beta version.
Only drawbacks that we can see is that it only works for, logically enough, mp3 files and there does not seem a way to give users the options of downloading the mp3 file.
