By fumbling on
I'm working on an academic dissertation-style piece, with lots of footnotes, cross-referencing, glossary and so forth. I've been using Word but considering switching to the Drupal book module instead, as that will make cross-referencing with hyperlinks, tagging chapters and so forth much easier. At the same time, is drupal book module the wrong tool for the job to create an actual non-fiction book? Can a book creating from the book module be easily packaged up into a PDF or any other e-book format if I need one? Anyone know examples of any actual published non-fiction books or dissertations that are also published using the Drupal book module?

The people at
The people at www.cocoalab.com have done what you're describing. They have their "book" available as a PDF download. I don't think any of the admins are active here (at least not that I've seen), so you might try contacting them directly and asking what they do to construct the PDF.

Couldn't find...
Thanks Dave, but I couldn't find the book you were referring to on their site. Do you have the URL for that page? Anyway, thanks for your help, appreciate it.

Dissertation as book
Hi -- After some work I was able to get my dissertation out of MS Word 2003 into a nicely structured Drupal book with embedded images that link out and in-text citations that are hyperlinks to Biblio nodes.
