How to block search by user

Hi,

I'm using the search type module, which lets you search by individual content types and I am trying to modify the module to remove the option of searching for users. I wouldn't normally post this here but this module is no longer supported. I've found a few recommendations for blocking the search by user function but none are working for me. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate any feedback.

I think if you remove the permission to "access user profiles", that tab ought to go away for everyone except those that can access profiles and for user #1.

Thanks, I have been doing that but I would prefer to allow visibility of profiles, even if it isn't through the search function. I'm sure there's a fairly easy way to do this, I just haven't found one yet.
