Is there a way to import a structure from the book module into outliine? I'm running D5.7.

No such script exists. You would need to hire someone to write one.

You are better off using book.module only with D5, and use book.module AND outline.module with D6. Outline module has been completely rewritten for D6. I plan to make a first alpha D6 release shortly (hopefully within a week).
