How about including a block that has an "Install Plugin" link as demonstrated at Adding search engines from web pages.

Great idea, any thoughts on what graphic to use? Or how to display it?

After a few days thinking about it I realized I don't really have a preference as long as the block output is admin-configurable. It could be placed anywhere there's a block region, like above or below the search form.
Does anyone have any ideas? I admit I'm not thinking very creatively right now.
