I am in the midst of upgrading 5.9 to 6.3, following upgrade.txt. Everything backed-up and transferred, all modules turned-off, default theme and user. Will not process update.php. Basically freezes to a blank screen and when I try to get to any page..a flood of db errors. I have tried most of everything I have found here re this...help please!

Error with update.php
I receive the following error when running update.php:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare update_sql() (previously declared in /home/sjmo2/public_html/update.php:21) in /home/sjmo2/public_html/includes/database.inc on line 67
Solved
Purged module directory completely...then reinstalled needed modules....Hope this helps someone in the future.
First I followed
First I followed http://drupal.org/node/112884 to find out why the update.php page was a blank screen.
Fail. I got the same error in update.php when I upgraded from the latest 5.x (which is now 5.19) to the latest 6.x (which is 6.13).
I purged the modules. Still no luck.
