How to create a View that is Filtered by taxonomy and by Event Start Date

Any help for the followin would be great.

I've created a view which filters on a taxonomy Category which contains a single sticky Page & several events (using the Events Module) which works ok until I also try the filter on Event Start Date so the view only contains upcoming Events (not old events) as well as the sticky page at the top of the view.

I know this is because the filters use AND queries instead of OR and the page node does not contain the Event Start Date field.......

I've had a poke around the code but I'm completely stuck right now can someone please point me in the right direction, code really is not my strong point.
