I think something missing from every mail module for Drupal is good mail statistics, I have seen a few modules that skim over it.

Mailout is the only module I have seen that really broaches the area, but that module does a very specific job. It would be a great addition to Subscriptions to be able to see how many users are actually reading the mails.

i.e.

  • Number of subscriptions to individual categories/taxonomy
  • Number of people who clicked back to the site to read the node
  • Number of people who opened the email (tracking image)
  • Number of sends/bounces

I agree that this would be interesting, but
– there is no overwhelming interest, and
– it would be a lot of work to implement
so, unless you want to implement it, it's unlikely to happen...
