Anyone know what happened to Drupal Miracle training videos being developed by Greg Knaddison (www.masteringdrupal.com).

I have been coming back to his site time after time, even posting a comment / question. But no one seems to reply. So, anyone knows what’s up. Know if the project has been canceled?

Thank you

Rask

The project hasn't been canceled, but as has been said many times in response to many people on masteringdrupal.com the project relies on Drupal core and contrib and can therefore only be completed after all the contrib modules are ready.

We (and yes, this is not my project but actually the project of Bence who contracted with me to make the videos) could release the finished videos now and then trickle out the additional contributed module videos as they are completed but Bence prefers to release it all at once.

When it is done I'm confident that it will be a valuable addition to the community, but there is no sense in rushing it and making something low quality or that is out of date immediately.

Regards,
Greg

Hi,

I would agree with Greg when he says that it is better to release a mature quality product than low-quality product prematurely, but then again, this was scheduled to be released in March or something if I am not wrong. Also, I think it is just responsible to give an update as to the release or what the progress is and what is holding the release. It would make readers know that people behind it are still interested in the project. But when nothing absolutely is said especially if people write and nothing is heard back, it just shows lack of commitment. However, I think it should be a nice product once it is released. I also believe a lot of us who are new to Drupal and beginning with D6 would still purchase "Drupal Miracle" at whatever stage it is because we are building sites with D6 and a module that is not released for Drupal 6 would anyway not be used in production site because it has not been released so a video covering that module would anyway not be required and we all understand that.

Also I would like to add if they are waiting for all modules like e-commerce/Ubercart, etc. to be released for D6 then I doubt it would be released this year. However, there is good news. Lynda.com is releasing video tutorial this month. I read about it on a blog at Acquia and is also mentioned on Lynda.com. Look out for that, it is titled "Essential Drupal Training". Its release is around the corner as it has already been recorded by Tom Geller.

Thanks,

RKC

Thanks for replying.

Greg, I enjoy and learn a lot from your video training. But I do agree with RKC that it is responsible to give updates as to when you plan to release. Also pricing and a table of content would be great.

I also understand your augments for delaying the project. But what exactly are you waiting for? CCK, Views and Organic Groups have been release candidates for a long time now. Then we got Panels, but as I understand Merlin of chaos, he won’t start developing Panels for Drupal 6 before Views 2 is done. So if you are waiting for the final release of CCK, Views, Groups and Panels, Drupal Miracle will be way off.

Rask

OK. Status update: they are in progress ;)

Pricing and table of contents are up to Bence.

Release candidates are not good enough, unfortunately. As I prepare the videos, I've run into bugs in these versions (some of which I've patched). There have also been functional changes to the modules which, if I had recorded/released already, would make the videos outdated (for example the "override" indicator in views has changed from a little white circle to italics and greyed out).

If it has to be "way off" in order to be accurate and cover the right topics, then it has to be that way.

Posting the pricing and ToC is up to Bence. I don't decide those aspects.

Greg

Hello Greg,

Thank you for your update.

Since I'm new to Drupal but I'm not new to IM. Tell Bence he is using not good sale tactics... these people are innocent open source guys.

Slow launch so people would cry for your product should use else where, then people will feel really waiting and you raise high price, it should not use with INNOCENT OPEN-SOURCE COMMUNITY. It's not bad while you let people waiting, you sell another video product right? Go google "Drupal Tutorial" and you will see what I means. There is one and only Drupal tutorial that use strong IM tactics, sale letter.

This call Scarcity tactics, which tend to harm growth of Drupal. CONTRIBUTE!

PS: The product is ready, but not prime time for big buck yet. The subscriber list is just not much enough, go his homepage and you will know what I mean. And I'm apologize to revealed your plan, it just unacceptable.

Kind regards,
Thai

The secret is...

...

there is no secret.

Look at my profile: http://drupal.org/user/36762 I contribute. Look at Bence's here and on groups.drupal.org. He has contributed. In addition to his profile, Bence paid me to create the videos for the Drupal6 announcement which he then gave away _for_free_

Please, don't jump to negative conclusions like this or slander people.

Greg,

Thanks for your reply.

It may just be me, but I thought being a release candidate meant that no more changes was made, only bug fixing. Guess I was wrong.
Anyway, I enjoy your video tutorials and look forward to the release of Drupal Miracle, when ever that is.

Regard,

Rask

Hi greg,

Any news about when Drupal Miracle video tutorials will be released? If was announced back in February, and has been postponed ever since, reason given, that key Drupal 6 module wasn’t released yet. Well, they are all out now, except for Panels, which apparently won’t be released any day soon. So can we expect a release soon?

Thank you

Hi Rask,

No, we are still waiting for some modules like Panels, and general stability in other modules in general.

Greg
