I upgraded from v2.4 right to v2.8 and Lightbox stopped working. It opens the Lightbox window and then you get an eternal spinning wheel as it tries to open the image.
Are there any tricks to the upgrade?

stella commentedCan you provide a link to the site? My contact form is enabled if you wish to do so privately.
Did you run update.php? Did you upgrade Drupal or the jquery update module at the same time? If you upgrade Drupal, you may need to re-install jquery update too.
Are you running the "nice menus" module by any chance? There is a conflict between nice menus and the later lightbox2 releases. It's caused by a bug in the nice menus module, and has already been reported in a different issue - you can see that issue for the link to the patch.
What are your lightbox2 settings and what sort of image are you trying to open in a lightbox? e.g. image nodes, imagefields, flickr images, etc.
Cheers,
Stella
Comment #2
mdowsett commentedI did run the update before.
My jquery_update was at v1 so i upgraded it now to v2, ran update and it didn't work. WHen you click on an image, the Lightbox window came up for a second or so and then it opened the clicked image in the browser window (plain, no Drupal theme to it).
I am using nice_menus so I disabled nice_menus and tried it again and the same thing happened.
Do you have a link to that patch? I can't find it.
And I am opening image nodes in lightbox.
thx for your help.

mdowsett commentedgreat...now I've got more problems...after I upgraded jquery_update, all my collapsible drop down menus (like in the admin/build/modules) lost their little triangle...so they are all closed with no way of opening.
I disabled Javascript in my browser to get in them to discover that jquery_update was now disabled and greyed-out (not checkable). What's up with that?! It doesn't have any dependencies on other modules....I tried reverting back to v1 and also reinstalled v2....nothing worked.
Any suggestions? I've never seen a module without dependencies be greyed out before, what could cause that?

stella commentedNice menus issue: #276985: Constant animation in I.E 7 and broken image
jquery update - i've never seen that myself, but if you're using jquery update 2.x, you need to copy in all jquery_update/misc js files to the drupal misc/ folder, not just the jquery.js. You need to do this every time you upgrade drupal or jquery update.
Greyed out - if you disable lightbox and all other modules that require jquery update and submit the form, you may then be able to disable jquery update. You need to submit the form in between. Maybe that's your issue.
Please send me a link to your site. My contact form is enabled if you wish to do so privately.

mdowsett commentedthe jquery_update issue seem to resolve itself...a miracle ain't it?!?
and then I tried disabling nice menus and the image galleries behaved the same. Check it out here:

(and I use FireFox 3)
thx for taking a look at it.

stella commentedI've just looked at your site and lightbox2 is working perfectly. I can click on the image, it opens in the lightbox and I can navigate between them too. I'm also using FF3.
Perhaps you need to clear your browser cache?
Cheers,
Stella
Comment #7
mdowsett commentedI did some more testing with Safari and FF and with and without Nice Menues enabled or not and found that it only doesn't work when logged in as the admin user...how strange.
I can live with the admin not viewing images thru Lightbox but would still like to resolve it...any ideas?
stella commentedI've never encountered that. What other contrib modules do you have enabled? Perhaps it's a permissions thing? Though really the admin user should have access to everything regardless of permissions.
BTW, I checked out your site again but am receiving a "Unable to connect to database server" error.
Cheers,
Stella
Comment #9
mdowsett commentedI think the site was only down briefly.
I was dealing with two sites at the same time...so I apologize, the site I linked you to above was upgrading from Lighbox v1.1 to v2.8
Should that make a difference?
It now seems it's a browser issue....I can't get it to work on Mac FF3 but on Safari it's fine on any user. And I made sure JS is enabled in FF3.
Strange.
mdowsett commentedand I then upgraded it back to v2.8 and it isn't working in any browser...same behaviour...it starts the java Lightbox animation and then just kicks to the image screen...and not just the image node page but just the image's source URL (http://soga.ca/files/images/DSC00509a_0.JPG for example)
mdowsett commentedand I just tried this on another site of mine...upgrading from 2.6 to 2.8 - it works in FF and Safari...but only when you aren't logged in as admin (anon and normal users are fine).
this has to be a bug...no?
stella commentedIt looks like your site is still running a very old version of lightbox2. So I can't look at it and figure out the problem.
There were a lot of comments above. Am I correct in thinking that the problem only affects the admin user? And it happens in all browsers but only for the admin user?
I don't think it's a bug, as it works fine for me when logged in as the admin user (uid=1). If it is a bug, it's very much an edge case.
Can you provide me with a link to a site that is running the latest version? Preferably even the dev version.
I should point out that the lightbox2 5.x-1.x versions are no longer supported.
Cheers,
Stella

mdowsett commentedI don't know what the heck is going on....the site I referenced above (http://soga.ca/image/tid/121) now seems to be working. it's on 2.8 and it works this morning with all users and all browsers.
But the other site that I just upgraded last night from v2.6 to v2.8 is still having the same issue (admin user not working on either FF3 or Safari).
Maybe I'll go grab a nap as things seem to fix themselves when I sleep! :)
I'll test it later to see if it's a cache thing...although, I've cleared my browsers' caches and that didn't help. I wonder if the Cache Exclude module will help with this....I'll test that too and report back here.

stella commentedIf you send me the url of the remaining problematic site I'll take a look. My contact form is enabled if you wish to do so privately.
Cool pics btw.

mdowsett commentedThanks - those pics were of me and not easy to take! A special flight.
I meant to put the URL of the other gallery - how else would I expect anyone to help!
http://www.goflyxc.com/image/tid/159
Bet then again, I don't know what you'll be able to see as you have to be logged in as UID=1 to see the problems...
I also can't seem to get the thumbnails to stop overlapping in the gallery displays...it does it on both sites mentioned here (and others of mine). I've requested support for this as well but never got any response. (I know I shouldn't list multiple issues here but I figure since I have you listening...).
MANY thanks,
Comment #16
stella commentedCan you send me the list of contrib modules enabled and their versions? would you be able to send me the page source of the gallery page when you're logged in as the admin user? That could really help.
As for the image gallery issue, you need to find out where the gallery list is generated, because this is the html generated:
The height specification is wrong for your image sizes. Check if your theme's template.php has an override function for the image gallery output. If not, then it's probably an issue with the image gallery module.
stella commentedMarking as "won't fix" since no more information forthcoming. Please feel free to re-open this issue if the problem is still occurring.

Stella
