I notice this is discussed on the project page for the automatic pruning of messages. I'd love to be able to do this but haven't been able to find the specified module.

I have the same question. It looks like the module is automatically using the pm_archive table. Are there any configuration options for Admin (like 'archive older than xmonths', 'delete ...).

I'm closing old issues since Privatemsg for Drupal 5 is not maintained anymore. I suggest you switch to Drupal 6 if possible, many of the reported issues are probably already resolved there and if not, you're welcome to open a new issue.
