I'm interested in creating a module with functionality similar to this. I thought that perhaps I would upgrade this module to 5.x and then 6.x and then add my additional features to this module.

@greggles: thanks for the update. I just started using firestats, which works very well, but do you know of any other drupal based user tracking solutions?
